THE STANLEY "ONE - PLACE" STUDY

A study of a Derbyshire village and its inhabitants

A NOTE FROM THE WEBMASTER: I started this website around 1999 as a free online resource for people interested in tracing their ancestors from the village of Stanley, Derbyshire. I have been updating it ever since, with contributions from other people and by adding baptism and marriage entries once a year on the 100th anniversary of the baptisms and 75th anniversary of the marriages. However, Rootsweb have decided to archive all the freepages websites sometime during 2024 and I will no longer be able to update this site after that happens. Therefore I am doing one final update during 2023. This update has hopefully tidied up the site, and I have added baptisms up to 1925 and marriages up to 1950, even though this breaks my rule of waiting 100 or 75 years. I am still happy to help with any queries, but if you find any errors on the site I am sorry but I will be unable to correct them after the website is archived. Please check any transcription that you find here before accepting it as accurate, I have tried not to make any mistakes but there may well be some. Ancestry is an excellent source for checking the parish registers and censuses, and you can buy a copy of any will from the probate office website (current cost only £1-50). Otherwise you can visit or request help from Derbyshire Records Office.
