Directories & Almanacs

The findmypast collection of directories and almanacs includes the most comprehensive collection of directories available online, dating back to 1783. National directories published by Pigot, Slater and Thom are usually organised by province. They list the principal office holders, gentry, professionals, tradesmen, hotels, schools, public institutions, churches, and even pubs for each town in Ireland.

Regional and Local directories are also available, these concentrate on smaller geographical areas. Information includes a detailed introduction to each town and village with details of office-holders, professionals, merchants and tradesmen, as well as a full alphabetical directory of farmers and other residents not listed by trade.

There are also directories devoted to particular groups, trades or the gentry.

Newspaper Abstracts

Newspaper abstracts extract and distill information from newspapers which are particularly useful to the family historian.

In this collection is Byrne's Irish Times Abstracts 1859-1901. These records cover the City of Dublin and its southern suburbs from 1859 to 1901 and are based solely on data extracted from the Irish Times covering daily events which will be of interest to the Irish family historian: births, marriages and deaths and legal cases.
