Kildare, Ireland : Classification : Poor Rate

Poor Law determined who could claim public relief and support when they were in need. These lists are often found along side of Removal Orders which list those whose claim had failed in one area and they were removed to the parish nearest their place of birth. Settlement Certificates proved which parish a family belonged to and so which parish had the legal responsibility to provide poor relief when needed.
